Perambulator Times - Beth & Barry Huckstep
Barry and I have organised four large well-known friendly and successful pram and doll events at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham, Kent in recent years which were enjoyed by many lovely Prammy and Dolly lovers from all over the world and their Families and Friends.
And, more recently, we, with our family, have enjoyed working with Ruth and Billy Herrington and their lovely family, having fun, organising last year’s very successful Prams, Dolls ‘n’ Bears International 2019 event at Ardingly! What an amazing and fabulous day that was! We are very much looking forward to attending PD ‘n’ B 2021!
I have been a prolific collector of vintage prams and pram and nursery memorabilia for over 25 years and have enjoyed giving a number of Talks and Demonstrations to various Clubs, Groups (W.I., M.U., etc) and Church Fellowships, in that time.
Since 2008, I have edited and published the quarterly Perambulator Times magazine which has a worldwide membership of lovely like-minded pram and doll enthusiasts and I warmly welcome new members.
For many years we have organised vintage pram events and pram walks, supporting a variety of local and national charities, but could not have done this without the love and support of our very dear and caring, growing group of prammy and dolly friends – ‘The Original Vintage Pram Society’ and of course, our wonderful family. With Barry, I am also actively involved in other charity work.
Barry enjoys providing the practical support and partnering me at 1940s re-enactments, including bringing to selective events, our Living History ‘Home Front’ Displays – ‘Government Evacuation Scheme Volunteer Helper Recruitment Centre’ and ‘W.V.S. Pram Donation & Hire Centre with Children’s Shoe & Clothing Exchange Centre’, ‘PDSA and Sandwich-board Man’, accompanied by our trusty golden dog, Stirling ‘the war-time PDSA Rescue Dog’, who watches over her companions, our other much loved pets – six fluffy ‘Rag Doll’ Puss-cats when left in charge at home!
